Description

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12‑25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples' wellbeing.  This covers four core areas: mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.

About the role

The purpose of the Youth Access Worker is to effectively engage, plan and coordinate care for young people that contact or are referred to the headspace centre.  They do this by assisting the processes for intake, assessment and review, dealing with enquiries and supporting young people to access services and provide a coordination of care to meet individual needs.

They work in collaboration with other professionals, including general practitioners and allied health providers, in providing services to young people, and will advocate on behalf of young people accessing headspace services.  The role requires effective collaboration with the team in providing a range of culturally sensitive activities to engage young people in services provided by headspace, and in the delivery of individual or group-based skills training activities.

About you

You will have previous experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds, including young people who are culturally and linguistically diverse, from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and LGBTIQA+.  A demonstrated engagement with young people, particularly in areas of mental health and substance abuse intervention, including intake and clinical assessment of young people aged 12 to 25 years is also desirable.

Ideally you would also have case management and care coordination within a team environment, and experience using evidence-based youth-focused intervention frameworks for young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug/s, and other social issues.

An undergraduate or graduate qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or Occupational Therapy with training in Mental Health, or Mental Health Nursing, or similar tertiary qualification and including drug and alcohol counselling is required, and ideally you will also have a current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the applicable Australian Professional Association (i.e. AASW).
