How our Respiratory Nurse can help you

Respiratory Nurses can provide support for people who have been diagnosed with a respiratory illness or can assist with assessing people with breathing difficulties where the cause is unknown.

Some common respiratory illnesses include asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, emphysema, and bronchiectasis. Respiratory Nurses work closely with their patients to help them better understand their condition, its management and what changes they could make to their lifestyle to help them get the best out of life.

• Assessing your difficulty in breathing
• Testing how well your lungs are working
• Helping you use any breathing equipment correctly such as puffers, spacer, nebulisers etc.
• Learning about your condition
• Quit smoking support
• Helping you with phlegm clearance techniques
• Tips on managing breathlessness
• Working with your GP in the care of your condition
• Referring to other services as appropriate

How do I access this service?

Government funded appointments

Country & Outback Health offers free Respiratory Services to communities with a population of less than 8,000. If you would like to have a chat with one of our Respiratory Nurses, make an appointment with your doctor and ask for a referral to Country & Outback Health. After getting a referral from your doctor, you will be offered a 1-hour initial appointment and ongoing support as you need.

How much does this service cost?

Free Respiratory Care appointments have been made possible by funding and support from Country SA PHN (CSAPHN)

If Allied Health services have been included in your NDIS plan, you will find them under Capacity Building Supports listed as Improved Daily Living or Improved Health and Wellbeing.
