My Mentor

Support, counselling and psychological therapy for children finding it difficult to understand their feelings and emotions.

My Mentor aims to provide structured support to children who may be struggling to understand their feelings and emotions. Structured learning and skill development can provide your child with the tools that they may need to better cope with daily life. 

Strategies developed through the My Mentor program are tools which your child will be able to use throughout their whole life. 

The My Mentor program focuses on;

  • Growing your child's understanding of uncomfortable feelings like anger and frustration 
  • Developing your child's skills and strategies to cope with uncomfortable feelings 

My Mentor works towards;

  • Giving your child with the skills that they may need to process their feelings internally, reducing their need to react physically 
  • Improving your child's ability to interact  with adults and friends their own age 

The My Mentor can also provide support to parents and caregivers, helping you to;

  • Grow your understanding of your child's feelings  
  • Learn how to best communicate with and support your child 
  • Develop your behavioural management skills 

The My Mentor provides structured short term support through therapy sessions with a Mental health Counsellor or Mental Health Clinician and is suitable for children aged 4 to 12 years. Therapy sessions are generally held fortnightly and children are encouraged to practice their coping strategies between sessions. 

My Mentor has been developed to support children who many be less able to access other mental health services, to access the My Mentor program please see your GP for a referral.
