Support for children with a disability and their family 

Discovering Me is a new program now available in the Barossa region which is designed to support your child with a disability and their family. 

The Discovering Me program aims to give your child a greater understanding of their disability and help them to grow their coping strategies for daily life. This is achieved through psychological based therapy and skill development programs.  

Discovering Me focuses on;

Growing Emotional Understanding 

  • Understanding what feelings are 
  • Learning how to cope with uncomfortable feelings like anger 

Building Social Skills  

  • Learning social cues from parents and friends 
  • Learning how to respond in different situations 
  •  Learning how to work with others

Behavioural Support for Parents  

  • Learning how to develop successful behaviour management plans for your child 

Discovering Me works towards the following outcomes;

For your child 

  • Improved awareness of their emotions 
  • Development of coping strategies to help them with daily life 
  • Growth in their understanding of their disability 

For parents / caregivers 

  • Further understanding of your child's disability 
  • Increased understanding of the impacts on your child 
  • Development of behaviour management skills 
  • Learning how to best communicate with your child 

Sessions with our mental health clinician are generally held every two weeks, and your child will be asked to practice their coping strategies in between sessions. 

The Discovering Me program is suitable for children aged under 12 years and can be accessed through and NDIS package (Behavioural Support).
